I love love love cake. Something about it is so comforting, satisfying, and just makes me feel like the world is okay. But then I eat the whole thing and well, still feel good! My DH and I used to be addicted to boxed yellow cake and a tub of chocolate frosting. It was our go-to dessert when we were craving sweet. Plus, box cakes are such an easy delicious recipe to make. We would go to the store and buy 4 items, yellow boxed cake, chocolate frosting, milk, and vanilla ice cream. Milk for my DH to drink and ice cream for me to eat with my cake.
Then one day I got to thinking, “I make all these other cakes from scratch and they taste so much better than a box mix, why not make a yellow cake from scratch with a chocolate buttercream?” It was a ‘Duh’ moment for sure. To illustrate how good this cake & buttercream frosting, the delicious rating will include photos.

Creative Ways To Decorate Your Dessert
There’s no wrong way to enjoy a dessert – as long as you enjoy the flavor and presentation of your chosen dish. Whether you’re looking for a classic pairing like yellow cake and chocolate frosting, or you’re feeling experimental and want to try something new, these tips will help.
Match your cake and frosting flavors for a classic combination. Whether you’re using vanilla or chocolate frosting, it’s important to use flavors that go well together. Playing with different textures can also add extra excitement to your dessert. Try fluffy meringue layers topped with crunchy nuts or chocolate shavings, for example.
Experiment with different textures of frosting. If you’re in the mood for something on the sweeter side, try fluffy whipped cream frostings or even marshmallow Frosting. For something more savory, try a tangy cream cheese Frosting or a rich butterscotch Frosting made with caramel sauce.
Use chocolate shavings, sprinkles or nuts to create extra decorations on top of your frosted desserts. Add some fun texture and flavor combinations by using these various toppings sparingly – just enough to give your dessert an extra pop of flavor without becoming overwhelming. You can also use these ingredients to create unique shapes like stars or hearts on top of your cake (or cupcakes).
Add color to your dessert by using colorful fondant accents on top of your finished cakes and cupcakes. This edible material is available in many different colors and can be easily shaped into any design that you desire using cookie cutters (or even food coloring!). For an extra special touch, why not use fresh flowers as part of your decoration? They look beautiful both fresh and preserved in sugar syrup!
